After more than two months since our last mission series, we finally completed another one: Gardens by the Bay by Sharkzy!
We did this series with two new Ingress friends: husband and wife couple Ann and Jen Hwa. They’re almost our neighbours, we only live a few blocks apart.
Mission Series notes:
– All 24 missions are in Gardens by the Bay area, and waypoints can be completed in any order
– The order to complete the missions is to follow the alphabet of the missions. Start with “Assemble in GBTB”, followed by “Balance in GBTB” and so on, until you hit “Yearn in GBTB”
– The letters “X” and “Z” aren’t used in these missions, so don’t look for them
– I recommend you start from Bayfront MRT and walk in. We parked below and so when we came up, we had to backtrack quite a bit before we completed the first mission.
– The whole series takes about three hours to complete on foot. We took three and a half hours (7.30pm to 11pm) because we stopped halfway for prata
– Most of the missions consists of hacking waypoints and an average one passphrase waypoint per mission. Two exceptions: the “Kiss in GBTB” mission contains TWO passphrases, while the last mission (“Yearn in GBTB”) only has hacking waypoints.
– All the passphrase waypoints are questions related to the layout of the Ingress tabs and in game actions. Very easy to figure out.
– When you reach a passphrase waypoint, DO NOT HACK IT FIRST. Some of the missions overlap portals, so do prep Multi-Hacks and Heat Sinks in case you make mistakes
As we drove in, I managed to snag a picture of the GBTB sign. I thought it wouldn’t come out nicely since we were moving, but it came out well.
I came loaded with water and my charger pack and I was so efficient that I managed to complete two Carousell deals at Raffles MRT before we started. Go me. Anyway, we took a group shot before we started.
Most of the missions were uneventful, so I’ll just post the screenshots. Since there was no order to the waypoints, I soon realised that it was futile to take the mission map screenshots. Instead, I took screenshots of the passphrase questions and answers.
SPOILER ALERT: THIS IS A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO THIS MISSION SERIES. ALL ANSWERS TO THE PASSPHRASE QUESTIONS WILL BE PROVIDED.
Kiss in GBTB
Take note that in this mission, there are TWO (2) passphrases and that the last passphrase portal is the first portal of the next mission so DON’T HACK IT FIRST.
After this mission, we decided to have a break. There was a 24 hour hawker centre that reminded me of the one at East Coast Park. We had prata and decided to take a group picture while we ate.
I didn’t take a very good photo…
After we finished, we took another group picture. Man, were we tired!

Hi Jace,
Thanks for the walk-throughs. I’m going to be in Singapore for less than 24 hours in July and am looking for a nice little banner… do you recommend this one or a different one? I love that Mystic at Har Paw Villa one but it looks like it might be a bit challenging for a short-term naive visitor.
Thanks
Sarah

Hi Sarah! Wow it’s been 2 years since I wrote that! I’m so glad it’s still appreciated XD
If you’re looking for an iconic banner for Singapore, this mission series would be perfect. It’s iconic of Singapore, can be done at night so that the weather doesn’t cook you through, it takes a respectable 3hours to complete, and there’s lots of food and rest stops.
Haw Par Villa is super creepy at night and besides, it’s not open after 7pm. This is actually not challenging at all. You’ll only take about an hour or so to complete it because all the waypoints are clustered in the same area. The only thing you might need to take note of is how to get there. Very worth it if you can go early in the morning. Temperature is definitely a factor because your mobile device may overheat.
Actually, if you’re game, you can do Haw Par Villa in the morning, enjoy the rest of the day in Singapore, then go to Gardens By The Bay at night.
I would recommend you DO NOT do the other banners on my list because:
– Perdition’s Road took 6 hours.
– You Mad Bro has higher requirements like linking portals and placing mods.
– Land of [Element] and Uniquely Singapore are both spread out all over the island.

Thank you Jace!
I’m actually arriving in the afternoon so I guess I could go to Gardens by the Bay after I check into my hotel (I’ve been there before only very briefly on the free tour that they run when you are in a long layover in the airport). Is there a decent place to eat dinner there?
(I like the idea of having the dragon above the gardens by the bay picture too)
I’m pretty ignorant of Singapore geography – would you be able to take a taxi to Haw Par Villa from Orchard Road?
I saw that most of the other banners on your list take a very long time 🙂

Hahahaha actually it’s a Kirin, not a dragon. Still awesome though! Do look up from your phone from time to time and enjoy the sights. As my friend Andrew said: “Ingress – Bringing people to interesting places only to make them stare at their phone.” XD
Singapore is only 40+km across; you can literally take a taxi from any point to any other point. To answer your question of transport: Yes, you can take a 15-20min taxi ride from GBTB to HPV. Grab and Uber are both quite popular here, so you might want to look out for discounts when you arrive. They’re pretty competitive.
Foodwise, I would say that’s the least of your worries. You can see after the Transform in GBTB section that we stopped to eat. So when you finish that mission, look out for a giant hawker center. There’s a lot of variety so take your time to walk through and decide. I highly recommend a large refreshing cup of sugar cane juice with lemon, especially after the missions.
